A Look Back at Our Year

July sees the start of the new Inner Wheel Year and as we start our new year we look back at a year of fun and fellowship as well as managing to help some very deserving good causes along the way.

During the year we've been entertained with visits from Rotary Club of Tettenhall President John Margetts; Angie Anstell who gave us a glimpse into her life in show business; the inspirational Dr Paul Whittaker OBE enthralled our Birthday Meeting in November with his signed interpretations of modern classics; Tettenhall Rotary Vice President Roger Webb told us of his escapades across America; and Ian Watkins shared with us the history of the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

We’ve been informed with presentations by Tanya Fellows about the work of Acorns Children's Hospice; we learnt the truth about dental hygiene from Dr Mo Sandhar; we heard about the impressive work in the local community from Rotary Young Citizen of the Year 2016 Emma Curran; we learnt how to plant a better hanging basket with Jacqui Johnson from our local Keepers Lane Plant Nursery; as well as learning more about our newest members with Life Talks from Andrea and Linda. We enjoyed visits to Shrewsbury Goal (most of us got early release for good behaviour – but if you do visit put in good word for Jenny); we kicked Christmas off to a great start with a visit to the Symphony Hall in Birmingham; we spent a happy couple of days in Nottingham at the Inner Wheel National Conference in the company of Robin Hood; we enjoyed stretching our legs with a walk around the beautiful Trysull countryside; and we discovered the secrets behind the creation of beautiful arrangements created by the floral artists at the Peony Faux Flowers factory.

We’ve also been able to help some deserving good causes along the way with donations to Acorns Children’s Hospice, MND Association, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, Medic Malawi, School in a Bag, Mary's Meals and Compton Hospice. At Christmas we filled shoe boxes with gifts for distribution by International Aid Trust and our twiddlemuffs proved to be great hit at our local Sunrise of Tettenhall and Perton Manor Residential homes.

2016/2017 President Doris can be proud of a great year and we’re looking forward to another fun
year ahead.
